Message from the WA President
At the ACE WA Committee we aim to broaden our resources and further develop our already successful offerings for educators in our state. Initially we were looking to have a committee and programme that were more representative of the various educational sectors, as well as their current issues and directions. As a Regional Branch we are very conscious of the need to be more informed and sustainable in our work by attracting recent graduates into our membership and committee.
Our work is most evident in our ongoing professional development opportunities for members, especially the 'Hot Topics' held each school term. We also endeavour to work closely with other educational organisations in order to strengthen education more widely. The annual presentation on early childhood is now entitled the Crescentia Anthony Early Childhood Forum in commemoration and honour of Crescentia’s wonderful work within education and ACE.
There also are two annual, more formal events that bring many members together. The Fellows Dinner always leads to rich discussion and fellowship, while the Walter Neal Oration and Awards Evening provides an opportunity to hear from a leading educator on a topical issue, recognise longstanding ACE members and present the WA College Medal to an outstanding contributor to education.
We are always to looking to diversify and strengthen our activities, so if you wish to contribute to our committee and its activities in any way, please do not hesitate to make contact with any of our Committee members.
Western Australia has a range of awards to celebrate the achievements of educators in the region, including the WA Awards for Excellence in Education, and the ACE WA College Medal. This prestigious award is presented annually to recognise an outstanding contributor to education.
WA holds a variety of events for members, ranging from networking events to awards evenings and include events such as professional development seminars.
A couple of the highlighted events held annually in WA include:
- Fellows Dinner - This evening function provides an opportunity for Fellows and Committee members to enjoy collegiality and be addressed by a recent Fellow.
- The Walter Neal Oration and Awards Evening - This occasion continues the memory of Dr Walter Neal AO FACE, and is open to all members and guests. As well as the delivery of an Oration from an eminent educator, the College Medal is presented and recognition is given to long-standing members of the College.
