It’s hard to muster up a footy team for a game when you live on a remote cattle station, hundreds of kilometres from the nearest town. Often there’s just mum, dad, and a sibling or two to play the ball. But for one week each year it’s not a problem for sports-mad distance education kids from Queensland and the Northern Territory. Hundreds of them have gathered in Mt Isa, in north-west Queensland, for their annual bush kids sports week. For many it’s a much needed chance to brush up on their team skills before heading off to boarding school in the new year.
