Guest Speakers

Ms Jane Merewether | Curtin University

Jane lectures in early childhood education at Curtin University. Previously, Jane was teacher of four-to-six-year old children for 18 years. The educational project of the city of Reggio Emilia informs and challenges Jane’s research and teaching. Her PhD research, which has been published in a number of international journals and books, used pedagogical documentation to investigate young children’s perspectives about outdoor learning spaces.

Ms Tanya Kazakoff & Ms Stephanie Pavlinovich | St Brigid’s College Lesmurdie

Tanya Kazakoff and Stephanie Pavlinovich are currently Year One teachers at St Brigid’s College, Lesmurdie. When they began working together they quickly realised that they shared a passion for nature and the huge benefits of outdoor learning. St Brigid’s beautiful hills location, including a natural bush land on campus, provided the perfect opportunity to make their dream of a ‘Bush School’ a reality. Once a fortnight Tanya and Stephanie spend the entire day with their classes in the Bush, meeting curriculum requirements, through play-based, outdoor learning.

Vernita Jaques | St Stephen’s School Duncraig

Vernita Jaques has been the Deputy Head of Primary at St Stephen’s School, Duncraig for the past four years. Vernita is an Early Childhood Teacher, who, in her role as deputy, has led and supported play-based learning across the Primary School, with particular emphasis on viewing outdoor learning spaces as an extension of the classroom. Vernita is a dynamic and passionate leader who has led teams in developing their pedagogy and practise in outdoor learning spaces.
