Special Guest Expert – Valerie Hannon

Valerie Hannon is a global thought leader, inspiring systems to re-think what ‘success’ will mean in the C 21st, and the implications for education. The co-founder of both Innovation Unit and of the Global Education Leaders Partnership, Valerie is a radical voice for change, whilst grounded in a deep understanding of how education systems currently work.

Formerly a secondary teacher, researcher and Director of Education for Derbyshire County Council,   then an adviser in the UK Department for Education (DfE) during the Blair years, she now works independently to support change programs across the world.

Currently, she is also Senior Adviser to the OECD in its Education 2030 project. Valerie is a regular keynote speaker and facilitator at international conferences and workshops, drawing upon her substantial research and publications, including:

  • Learning A Living: radical innovation in education for work (2013);
  • Redesigning Education: shaping learning systems around the globe (2014)
  • Local Learning Ecosystems (2019).

Valerie is the 2020 author of The Australian Learning Lecture  on the subject of The Future School. Her latest book is THRIVE: schools reinvented for the real challenges we face (2017) which will be published by Cambridge University Press in a second edition in 2020.

Anthony Mackay AM, is President & CEO of the National Center on Education and the Economy (Washington DC). He is Co Chair of Learning Creates Australia. Anthony is Deputy Chancellor Swinburne University, Melbourne. He is Board Chair of The Song Room, Board Director of High Resolves and Schools Plus, and Senior Fellow, Graduate School of Education, The University of Melbourne. Anthony is immediate past Chair of the Board of ACER. He is a Member of the Australian College of Educators Advisory Board.

Anthony is an expert consultant to OECD, Senior Fellow IBE UNESCO, Council Member of the Center for Global Education , Asia Society and Co-Chair Global Education Leaders Partnership. He is an International Advisor to Learning Forward (USA) and the New York Academy of Sciences.
